Wisconsin River & Local Lake Fishing Charters
Round River Adventures offers fly fishing and conventional fishing charters on the Lower Wisconsin River. Our goal is to enhance your knowledge, understanding and connection to the species we are targeting and the environments where we find these species. Whether it’s your first time casting a fishing rod or you’re an experienced angler, Round River Adventures has a trip designed to leave you a better angler. Beginners and kids are highly welcomed!
Make sure you have a current Wisconsin Fishing License.
Smallmouth Bass/ multi species
The lower Wisconsin River offers a one of a kind smallmouth bass fishery. Bass are often found corralling and blowing up schools of baitfish, which can lead to some heart pounding takes! Excellent topwater fishing usually starts around the end of May and can last throughout the summer.
Although the Lower Wisconsin River is primarily known for its bass fishery by fly anglers, there are plenty of other species to chase depending on the season. Gar, white bass, carp, walleye, panfish, the list goes on. By branching out and chasing different species, you can expand your understanding of the whole river ecosystem, helping you to become a more successful and well rounded angler.

Pike/Muskey
This trip focuses on some of the larger predators prowling South Western Wisconsin’s waters. Fishing can be especially good early spring, often offering opportunities for sight fishing post spawn pike cruising the shallows. Musky season kicks off in early May and provides consistent fishing until mid-late summer when water temperatures climb, dissolved oxygen levels drop, and fish become lethargic. After water temps reach the upper 70’s, musky are best left alone until things begin to cool down in September. From there, things really ramp up. Fish begin to feed heavily in preparation for winter, and the action becomes hotter and hotter the closer to ice up we get.

Fishing Charter FAQ
Do I need to bring my own gear?
Round River Adventures provides all of the fishing equipment you will need for your trip. We fish with St. Croix rods almost exclusively (made in Wisconsin). Hand tied flies, lures, and bait are all included depending on your trip. If, however, you would feel more comfortable using your own rod, by all means bring it along.
Are we fishing out of a boat or from the bank?
During the warmer months, we will generally be doing some fishing from the boat and some wet wading. RRA runs jet boats, allowing access to the tucked away, hard to reach nooks and crannies of the river. Trips during cool weather, catfish trips, and sturgeon trips will be spent aboard our comfy 18’ jet boat.
What if I don’t know how/don’t want to fly fish?
No problem! We cater each trip to the experience level of the angler. If you want to learn the basics of fly fishing, we would be happy to teach you. If you decide fly fishing isn’t for you, we can bring out the spinning rods. Our goal at RRA is to include anyone and everyone who has an interest in learning about fish and fishing.
Do I need to have any certifications when fishing?
Yes, everyone that takes a fishing charter with Round River Adventures is responsible for getting a current Wisconsin Fishing License before their trip.
